Is a high PR required to get high paying ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

PR doesn't have anything to do with what ads you get.

Genius Blogger

Is it possible to filter keywords or general topics from your ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Nope. You can only block domains. Or keep the topic keywords out of your site.

Genius Blogger

Should I make AdSense only sites?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

No. Make real sites. Not sites that you make just to get the visitor to come, and then leave on the AdSense ads. Google isn't known for banning people from going this..YET. But one of these days they might start banning for this.

Genius Blogger

It looks like every one is getting banned. Why should I even join?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Because you might be one of the 95+% that don't get banned and stay a member for years to come and keep getting payments. That's like saying 'Why should I even make money since I'll have to pay taxes??!!'

Genius Blogger

I have placed Adsense in my site for X months, but I have only made $X.00. How can I make more money?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Get a lot more visitors and optimize your site using the links at the end of the FAQ.

Genius Blogger

Can somebody sabotage my account?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

This is just a guess. But if Google doesn't compare domain registration contact with your account address, then yes, some one easily can. Then there's privacy registration which can make it hard to compare your address with the domain registration and contact the real site owner, and would probably get you dumped since the whois address wouldn't match.

Genius Blogger

Why are my high paying ads getting so low EPC?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Made for Adsense sites don't work! Give the advertisers poor quality clicks and they stop allowing there ads to show up. Plus there can be a lot of advertisers trying to make money off high paying keywords. For example, for mesothelioma, for every high paying advertiser (Think lawyers.) there are probably 25 low paying advertisers, and with the thousands of sites promoting the term, the lawyers get such low results that they probably stopped allowing there ads to show up on web sites.

Genius Blogger

Why are ads not appearing on my site?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

You will need to enable JavaScript in your browser in order to view Google ads on a website. Personal firewall software or ad blocking software can cause Google ads to not display.
If your site was previously disapproved, and is later reconsidered and approved for the AdSense program, there may be a delay of up to 48 hours before all of Googles servers are informed of the change and ads begin appearing on your site.

Genius Blogger

Why am I getting PSAs?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Your page may contain sensitive content for which relevant paying ads will not be displayed.
Your website is using session IDs in the URL.

Your web pages are behind a login.
There are too many URLs added to your account filter list.
Your web page may not contain enough content.
Your site content is primarily in an unsupported language.

Genius Blogger

How do I change my email address / login?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

1. Create a new email. If possible, use the email address currently associated with your AdSense account
2. Write 'Login change request' as the subject of your message
3. Include the following in the body of your message:
* The email address currently associated with your account
* The email address you'd like to use as your new account email address
* The date of the first day your account registered AdSense impressions
* The number of page impressions registered on your first day of impressions

4. Send the email to adsense-support@Google.com

If you currently do not have access to the email address associated with your account, Google may require more information to complete this request. (When I changed my E-mail address and didn't have access to the old E-Mail address, they did not require any extra info from me.)

Genius Blogger

Can my account be reinstated after being disabled for invalid activity?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

If you feel additional information would be valuable in explaining your situation, you can notify Google at adsense-adclicks@Google.com, or respond to the disapproval notice that was emailed to you.

Respond to the questions asked by the support team, and they will be happy to reconsider your account with the additional information provided. There is no guarantee that you will be reinstated into AdSense. If they feel the advertisers and publishers will be adversely impacted by invalid activity we may from time to time cease a publisher's participation in the program.

Genius Blogger

How many ads can I place on one page?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

You can place one link unit and 3 regular ad units.

Genius Blogger

How do I keep from getting terminated?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Do use the Adsense approved formats only.

Do keep your click-through data and income private.

Don't display Adsense on registration or thank you pages.

Don't use Adsense code and a competitor's content-targeted advertisement on the same page.

Don't encourage anyone else to click on ads.

Don't click on the site's own ads ever.

Read the Adsense policies and terms.

The easiest method an account can be banned is by a Webmaster clicking on the site's own ads.

Spikes in click-through percentages are hefty red flags. Those are the changes worth becoming proactive over by emailing Google Adsense. A site that rises from a consistent 1% click-through rate to a 10% click-through rate on one day could become suspect. The actual percentage that creates the flag isn't made public for obvious reasons.

Genius Blogger

What is a good CTR?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

It depends on the kind of site you got. Some sites have trouble getting a 1% CTR. Others have no trouble getting over 10% CTR. Check the links at the end of the FAQ for tips on optimizing your site.

Genius Blogger

Does high CTR mean elimination from Adsense?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Probably not. It shows your site is very optimized. It's when you have a massive spike that you want to worry about it. One thing to worry about is getting click-bombed. If you average 100 clicks a day, and suddenly get a 500 click day, contact Google immediately.

Genius Blogger

Are my stats reflected in real time?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Reports on impressions and clicks are usually updated every fifteen to thirty minutes and occasionally there will be a delay of 24 hours or more in the reports you see on the website, according to Google. Though it usually looks like it's more like a few hours delay, on average.

Genius Blogger

Do I have to pay taxes on the money I earn?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

If you are in the USA, yes. Get TurboTax. You may need to pay quarterly or get fines. As for other countries, odds are you do. Check with a CPA in your country.

Genius Blogger

I didn't get my check. Can I be reissued a check?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Yes. Make a request 25 days after the check was issued. If you receive checks by Secured Express Delivery, you can request a reissue of any month's payment after the 5th of the next month.

To request a new check, E-mail Google at adsense-support@Google.com and include the number, date, and amount of the check that you'd like reissued.

Genius Blogger

Other people are getting the Payment In Progress message but I'm not. What's up with that???

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Not every one get's the message at the same time. Google is known for giving the message to those getting paid by check first, then a few days letter the EFT payments start getting progressed. If you don't get the message by the end of the month, E-Mail Google, if you made over $100 last month.

Genius Blogger

Why can't I sign-up for EFT?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

You don't live in Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United States.

Genius Blogger

When do I get paid?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Google will send your check or EFT payment within approximately 30 days of the end of the month after you make US$100, unless a payment hold exists or unless otherwise agreed to in writing (including electronic mail).

For example, if you earn $40 in January and $70 in February, we'll send payment to you by the end of March.

If your account balance is less than US$100 at the end of the month, we'll roll your earnings over to the following month, until the payment threshold is reached. Balances include the combined earnings of AdSense for content and AdSense for search pages.

If you get the invalid clicks E-mail, you will not get another payment from Google unless you get reinstated.

Genius Blogger

How long does it take to start earning money?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

As soon as you place ads on your site, get visitors, and enough visitors to get clicks. Then as soon as you make $100.00 you'll get paid a month after the current month ends that you passed $100.00 and enter your PIN.

Genius Blogger

Can I change the colors?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

AdSense allows you to have up to 4 color variations for each variable for which you can specify color. For example.

google_color_border = ["628098","628098","000000","000000"];
google_color_link = ["000000","BBB90C","BBB90C","628098"];
google_color_url = ["000000","628098","000000","000000"];
google_color_text = ["628098","628098","000000","000000"];

Great for overcoming ad blindness.

Genius Blogger

What if I get denied when I sign-up and Google says I got banned before, yet I've never used AdSense?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

f you get this E-Mail......

Your AdSense account was found to be related to an account previously disabled for invalid click activity. A publisher who has an account that has been disabled for invalid clicks is not allowed further participation in the AdSense programme.

and you've never used AdSense before, try to figure out WHY they might be thinking you were once banned. IP Address? Owning a domain that was once owned by a user that cheated AdSense?? Once you figure out the cause, send them a nicely worded explanation, and cross your fingers.

Genius Blogger

I've been denied twice from joining. WHY?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Content! Content! Content! And read the TOS. For example, if the site is about firearms, xxx, gambling, or warez, even if it's just for example firearms reviews, that might set off the deny button.

1. Site under construction.
2. Not enough pages.
3. Not enough traffic.
4. Site that doesn't comply with policy.

Don't give up. Many people have had to sign up a few times before getting accepted. And try to get a good PR!

Genius Blogger

What are the rules about having images next to ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Google says....

Because ads are dynamic, publishers should be very careful not to place images that could deceive users directly above the ads. Highly general "stock" images are less likely to be deceptive than very specific images that suggest a specific offering at the advertiser's site.

Maintain a visible border around ad units if you choose to experiment with placing images directly above the ad units. While I realize that this may reduce the effectiveness of the technique, it's important to strike a balance between the potential to overcome ad blindness and the possibility of confusing users.

Contrasting color border around the Adsense Ad block or a simple HR code between them will work. Don't make the images look like there part of the ads. E-mail Google if you're not sure.

Genius Blogger

Is it OK to tell visitors to click non-Adsense ads on a site with AdSense Ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Don't!!!!

A friend had Adsense ads on his site and some non-Adsense ads that he made to advertise other areas of his site and his other sites, he asked his members to click them, they got confused and clicked all ads, he was banned.

Managed to get back on after many emails to G, but I would not bother if I were you. Any sudden increase in CTR is going to get your site looked at by the Adsense team, and "click my ads" anywhere on your site could get you booted.

Genius Blogger

Who pays more, Google or Yahoo?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

There's not a lot of info out on this yet. I got three quotes from three users that are now testing Yahoo... 'Yahoo pays 100% more'. Another one is 'finding YPN actually better than Adsense', and 'the CPC is better then AdSense'

Of course we don't know how the payout will be after Yahoo get's out of beta. As far as we know, they could cut payout in half a few months after going public when all the hype dies down.

If you got Yahoo Ads on your site, post your results on the boards and compare them to Google Ads.

Genius Blogger

Can I place Yahoo and Google ads on the same site?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Yes, BUT, they can not be on the same page. And you can have it random, one time Yahoo, and another time Google. Just don't have them both show up on the same page.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

Explain to them what caused the massive increase in visitors, and include links to anything that can back you up. For example, a major web page that adds a link to your site.

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

You are permitted to view CPM ads appearing on your pages without the risk of creating invalid ad impressions.

Genius Blogger

What are CPC ads versus CPM ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Cost-per-click (CPC) and cost-per-thousand-impression (CPM). When AdWords advertisers bid on a CPM basis, their ads will compete against CPC ads to display on your pages. Our technology automatically displays whichever ad will generate the maximum revenue for that page, so these ads should only improve your site's revenue potential. if a CPM ad appears on your site, you will be paid each time it appears on your page, not every 1000 times. The term 'cost-per-thousand-impressions' refers to they way AdWords advertisers bid on these ads.

For example, an AdWords advertiser might bid $X for 1000 ad impressions. If this ad appears on your site through the AdSense program, you will receive 1/1000 of $X each time the ad appears. This type of ad will only show on your site if it represents more revenue potential than a CPC ad.

My Adsense ads stopped showing up on some of his pages, and then stopped showing up altogether. Why?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

This problem is isolated to your colleague's computer and you are able to see ads on your computer. I have several suggestions which might clear up this problem.

First, have clear your browser cache and delete the browser cookies on both IE and Firefox. This sometimes solves the problem. Next, make sure that JavaScript is enabled on the browsers.

If the problem persists, I suggest taking the following measures:

1. Scan your computer for viruses, making sure that any anti-virus programs on his computer contain the most recent updates.
2. Download and run an anti-spyware program to remove any adware and/or spyware from his computer.

Genius Blogger

Can we have images above or next to our ads?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

Yes, but include a border line between the ads and use generic ads.

From AdSenseAdvisor...

Placing images above AdSense ads is not necessarily prohibited by program policies. However, depending on the method of implementation this could be considered `encouraging users to click on ads'.

Encouraging users to click on the Google ads appearing on your site is prohibited by AdSense program policies. The reason for this is to prevent artificial inflation of advertiser costs. This benefits both advertisers and publishers by preserving the integrity of the network, and maintaining its long-term viability.

Is it OK to create an Adsense Search Engine, ie direct users to a particular keyword?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

I recommend reading the 'Implementation and Operation of Ads and Search Results' section of the AdSense ToS (http://www.google.com/adsense/localized-terms).

We ask that you do not pre-populate search results. Search queries should be generated naturally by your users. In fact, a new AdSense for search feature allows you to see the top 25 queries generated by your AdSense for search box, which is a feature many publishers requested to help with site optimization.

Also, as per the AdSense program policies (http://www.google.com/adsense/policies)....

We do not permit Google ads or search boxes accessing Google search services to be published on web pages that also contain what could be considered competing ads or services...If you have elected to receive Google search services, this would include other search services on the same site and non-Google query-targeted ads. We do allow affiliate or limited-text links.

Everyday, my 'aggregate' clicks are about 15% more than the sum of all my channel clicks. Why do I have missing clicks?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

If you are using URL channels, some of these clicks could have been generated from cached versions of your page appearing in search engine results. Also, someone might be framing your content so the clicks are attributable to a different URL. Using 'www' in your URL channel can also have an effect on tracking.

If you are using custom channels, it is likely that one of your ad units might not be attributable to a channel.

Can I have AdSense placed in a newsletter (online) that is accessed by a link in an email to a sites newsletter subscribers?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

As long as the newsletter is a live HTML page, you should be able to use AdSense. The ToS apply to newsletters sent out by email (i.e., when the text of the newsletter is pasted into an email). If the email you send out only contains a link to the newsletter page, you should be fine.

Can Adsense be in pop-ups?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

According to AdSense program policies (http://www.google.com/adsense/policies):

No Google ad or Google search box may be displayed on any domain parking websites, pop-ups, pop-unders, or in any email.

From AdSenseAdvisor...

The reason for this policy is that Google believes strongly in providing a positive experience for the user. We have found that pop-ups, pop-unders, etc. take away from the user experience.

Should I be worried about all the accounts disabled for invalid clicks reports?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

I've noticed there seems to be concern surrounding accounts disabled for invalid clicks.

We have not made any significant changes to our monitoring system recently, and would like to reassure publishers that we value our relationships with you. However, sometimes it is necessary to disable some publisher accounts to maintain the quality of the network and ensure the long-term viability of the program.

We have strict policies and guidelines for invalid clicks. However, each escalated case is re-reviewed by a team dedicated to detecting invalid activity using several specialized tools and a wide variety of techniques.

Generally, this action is reserved for deliberate and egregious violations of the ToS and should not affect most of you. In most other cases, we try to work with publishers to comply with our guidelines and improve the results of their AdSense implementation.

In all cases, if you notice something suspicious in your account statistics, or if you feel there has been a misunderstanding, please email us.

How can I view my ads with out clicking them?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

If you are using Windows and the Internet Explorer browser, you can download the Google AdSense preview tool. More information is available at:

http://www.google.com/support/adsense/bin/topic.py?topic=160

If you are not using Windows or do not have access to the Internet Explorer browser, you can view the destination URL of ads appearing on your site by following the instructions on:

If you use these tips, you can set your mind at ease when you want to view the ads appearing on your site.

Are AdSense Trackers OK to use?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

If you're not modifying the code, or trapping the clicks or changing the way ads are processed, it should be all right to implement a click-counter script like the ones suggested.

Do be careful not to change the ad code without realizing it, though.

Genius Blogger

I got some English text on my site, but it's mostly *Insert other language.* Why do I mostly get PSAs?

Tuesday, October 23, 2007

(0) Comments

It looks like PSAs are appearing because *Insert other language* is currently not supported by the AdSense program. While I see that there is some English content, it is probably not enough for our crawlers to be able to determine the meaning of your page and serve relevant ads.

If you are not satisfied with the ads that are appearing, I recommend removing the code until we are able to support *Insert other language*. I see you are already using AdSense for search, and recommend continuing to use this option in the meantime.

AdSense serves ads that are relevant to the text-based content of a given site, which provides a positive experience for advertisers, users and publishers. If AdSense is placed on a site written in an unsupported language, the ads probably won't be relevant. Therefore, we kindly ask that you do not modify your code to try to alter the natural targeting.

Optimizing Adsense

Monday, October 22, 2007

(0) Comments

Today I earned a total of...$0. No surprise there-- nobody knows about UpHook yet. It's not heavily marketed. And even if it was, there aren't enough posts in it that people would stick around. What I need first are some seed posts. Then I'd need some way to drive people to the site. I can think of a good plan this weekend.

Today, I also optimized my Adsense ads. The original ads had a grayish background and blended in with a pre-defined ad section background (w/ rounded corners) that I had originally designed with the site. However, I figured I could do much better.

I first tried to change the color of the background theme for the ads section to a lighter color. But it really didn't look more blended in than the first attempt. So instead, I changed the color of the background to the same dark blue as the navigation bar. Then I changed the text to the same yellow that the site name is in. This looked "alright" but I thought it was a little awkward. So finally I just made the background completely white and formatted the text and title to match the general theme of the section headings for my site.

I don't really know how much of an effect this will have-- but I figured it would be wise to start off with Adsense as optimized as possible. According to other sources about Adsense, its VERY important to make sure the ads are blended well with the theme of the site-- and I think that’s what I accomplished.

There is nothing wrong with change, if it is in the right direction.
-Winston Churchill-

In the past few weeks or so you may have noticed a few major blogs changing their design. If you visit more than one of these sites you also may have noticed similarities in design…

JohnChow.com

I have included Shoemoney.com to show the similarities even though he did not update recently.

In the past few weeks or so you may have noticed a few major blogs changing their design. If you visit more than one of these sites you also may have noticed similarities…

Here are Trends and Changes I Noticed with the New Designs:

* The faux columns design is a thing of the past with the new designs. Even though it made things seem orderly, that space is money.

* More visuals. Definitely more pictures and items to look at with the designs. The creative use of a new car image on JohnChow.com also forces the eye to look downward at content.

* I have a feeling this ad placement on the bottom-right will catch on. I can honestly say that I now actually look at the ads. I assume the change with this ad placement was made to make more money off of more ads. In the past on JohnChow’s website you may have noticed there were but a few ads which stood out at the top of the page. However the new design almost hints the ads on the bottom-right by slightly cutting off the images- something that made me want to scroll down to see more…

* The top portion of the screen is now being utilized more so than before. Once again, the past designs left space at the top which seemed to go to waste. Take a look at the images I have grabbed for you and notice the changes with all the borders.

* RSS is now being placed in the top right hand corner below navigation. We already know the importance of RSS subscribers and now the authors are making it easier to find.

* Popular articles are now a whole lot easier to find. A weakness of John Chow’s site used to be the difficulty of finding these popular articles. With the new design, everything is laid out right below the picture at the top of the page. Even though Problogger was already doing this, I am fond of the side bar blog and ‘Best of’ on the front page.

* I am a big fan of white space. It makes everything feel open and gives your mind time to transition between each item you see. ProBlogger seems to have maintained this concept quite well. But John Chow seems to be running a little low on it at the top of the page.

Widget Bucks on the roll!

Monday, October 22, 2007

(0) Comments

As this particular method of advertising has proven to be a great way of generating revenue I thought I'd give this new widget from WidgetBucks a try. It takes products from top shopping websites like Amazon, ebay and Walmart and displays the best prices using an animated banner that you can display on your website or blog using their widget code. They even have their own algorithm engine called MerchSense for displaying products that are relevant to your websites content, it even adapts to new content that you write so it's great for blogs.

The widget also only displays the highest paying products. They say that publishers that have tested the widget are seeing a $3-6 CPM which compared to Google's Adsense is pretty good! Only difference being is that the widget will not fit seamlessly into your content like Adsense. For a CPM that high it's worth a try though!

Higher eCPM
Some early adapters are claiming earnings of $3 to $6 CPM (cost per thousand impressions). Most ad networks are paying out $1 to $2 CPM. Of course only time will tell if the $3 to $6 CPM carries over for everyone, but it’s worth a shot to see what happens.
$25.00 signup bonus
You need $50.00 for a payout and the $25.00 bonus puts you halfway there. The only “condition” is that the bonus only hits your account after you have made another $25.00 in clicks. Not a big deal.
Referrals
For every new referral you send to the Widget Bucks network you earn $5.00 ONCE THEY HAVE EARNED THEIR FIRST $50.00 payout.

Update - The above is incorrect. That is what the website said when I wrote this article. Currently it states: With WidgetBucks’ Referral program, affiliates can earn a 10 percent referral fee based on the commissions earned by the people they refer. Affiliates receive this 10 percent for the full 12 months after the new member joins. Payouts to affiliates are monthly, along with their commission checks. - Source
What makes Widget Bucks different than all the rest?
First and foremost it’s a widget that goes in the sidebar so it obviously has application for blogging. Oh and if you don’t like a traditional widget you have an assortment to choose from. I went with a traditional 468×60 banner. Also you can either choose the catergories it displays, or you can let MerchSense handle it for you automatically.

MerchSense™ is Mpire’s patent-pending contextual algorithm engine. It detects and analyzes the content of your website or blog to determine what product offers are most relevant to your audience. If you choose the MerchSense option when creating a new widget, simply place the code on your site and let MerchSense automatically provide the most appropriate ad content. MerchSense evaluates your editorial information daily, so, as your content changes, WidgetBucks will dynamically offer the highest-yielding products.

Beyond those things the reported CPM of $3 to $6 is neary twice the industry average. Not bad at all.
What other features and benefits are there?
Taken directly from the Widget Bucks “about us” page.

* Self-service, scalable and relevant content that’s free and easy to publish
* Dynamic, contextual widgets act as content (vs. ads) that more effectively targets your users, not the masses
* Dynamic Ad Yield Management matches the best merchant for each product while offering consumers the best price
* MerchSense (patent pending) contextual algorithm automatically targets the right products for your site
* Proprietary analytics, pricing and relevancy engines display buying trends of 100 million shoppers
* Extensive reporting tools and daily updates; Payouts are monthly
* Complements existing programs, such as Google AdSense
* Over 300 configurations, 256 color schemes and formatted for major IAB standard sizes
* Manual configuration also available by category
* Product listings from 30,000 merchants including trusted leading brands

What are YOU waiting for?
I know you’re interested so why not just sign up for Widget Bucks and give it a shot? For $3 to $6 CPM, and an instant $25.00 signup bonus what have you got to lose?

Domain Name Registeration

A domain name is essential if you’re serious about blogging. Its a $9 investment that makes you look professional. When BlogClout readers were asked who is their domain registrar, I wasn’t surprised that the overwhelming choice for domain registration is GoDaddy.

GoDaddy is the biggest registrar out there. And certainly spends the most amount of money on promoting themselves. In fact, I myself had all my domains registered with GoDaddy a couple of years back.

But that was before I read a horror story about GoDaddy.

i. SecLists.org archives various mailing lists.
ii. Some user posted MySpace usernames and passwords on a mailing list that SecLists.org archives.
iii. MySpace contacted GoDaddy - SecLists.org registrar and asks them to suspend that domain.
iv. GoDaddy leaves a voice mail for the owner of SecLists.org letting him know that they are suspending his domain - and suspends the domain after 52 seconds.

They suspend the domain name without giving any notice or warning. Or even time for SecLists.org to remove the content in question.

You can read more about it at: NoDaddy

Running various blogs, I realize that I don’t have control over all the content on my website. Anyone could come and leave a nasty or illegal comment. Should that be enough to get your domain name suspended?

Thats the time I inquired around and started transfering all my domains away from GoDaddy. I personally have never had a problem with GoDaddy. But as they say “Fools learn from experience. Sages learn from history.”

My choice for the new domain registrar?

Moniker.com

Why I think Moniker.com is the best domain registrar out there:

1. Many large domain name players that register 100s of domains recommend Moniker.

2. Even though Moniker is one of the big domain registrars out there, I’ve never heard them involved in a controversy.

3. They claim that they’ve never lost a domain!

4. Their prices are lower than other registrars if you request for the NamePros discount. (I’m not sure if Moniker will give a discount of all you register is 1-2 domain names. As I have a lot more domain names, I was enrolled in the discount scheme even before I was aware of their post on NamePros announcing the discount.)

5. Moniker also offers a domain testing service. Where you can cancel a domain name within 4 days of its registration and get your money back for a 25 cent stocking fee. If you are into domain arbitrage, this is a very valuable service!

Action Summary:

I recommend you transfer and register all your domain names with Moniker.com. Its better to be safe than sorry for your domain name. Because that is your identity online.

When Should You Start a Blog?

Skellie Wag - who runs an excellent metablogging blog - asks what can we do to make people comment on each others comments.

My short answer: Stop blogging. Start a forum.

It is very hard to build a community around a blog. Its much easier to build a community around a forum. That is because of the “rule-of-voice.” On a blog, the publisher has the biggest voice. On a forum, every member has equal voice. Hence, the incentive for someone to post on a forum is greater. And because there is no power difference, “discussions” can happen freely.

The flip side is, because everyone has equal say on a forum, it is very hard to distinguish yourself as an expert on them. You need a blog to position yourself as an expert.

When Should You Start a Blog?

1.To Position Yourself as an Expert
When you want to position yourself as an expert, start a blog. Because your voice is biggest on your own blog, its the best platform to position you as an expert.

2. While documenting a process.
When you want to document a journey or an adventure or maybe even a book - start a blog.

3. To Teach
If the topic requires conversation, go for forums. But if you already know more than most people - and want to teach instead of converse - go with a blog.

4. When You Don’t Have Time
When you don’t have a lot of time, go with a blog. Forums take a lot of time to gain momentum. And to moderate and make sure things go on smoothly. Blogs relatively take a lot less time.

Note: This doesn’t mean that blogs are a big No-No if you want conversations between readers. Conversations should be encouraged when you can. But it does mean that a forum is a better place for conversations while a blog is a better place for teaching and preaching

New NoFollow Plugin

Saying No to NoFollow

Disclosure: Your website will be crawled by search engines if you comment more than 2 times on this blog!

1. If you haven’t read the old post already, make sure you read why Saying No to NoFollow is a good idea. And why should you allow the search engines to crawl the websites of the people who comment on your blog.

2. Removing NoFollow tag from your blog does invite more spammers though. Many comment spammers use a script that finds blogs that have removed the NoFollow tags. And then automatically post a spam comment on that blog - never to visit it again.

3. Here is a solution to discourage these comment spammers: remove the NoFollow tags only if the commenter places more than one comment on your blog. Web sites of drive-by commenters won’t be craweld. The plugin that does this for you is LinkLove WordPress plugin - that has been activated on this blog recently.

(You will have to read the readme file and change one of the settings manually to reduce the minimum number of comments a person has to post to get his websites crawled. The default is 10 - which is way too high. I recommend to change it to 2 or 3. Don’t worry, its very easy to change the default setting by using notepad.)

Having Two RSS Feeds: Full Post Feed as well as Summary Feed

One of the blogs that I follow infrequently is LifeHacker.com

If you scroll down the LifeHacker blog, you will find that they provide two syndication options:

dual-post-feeds.gif
This is a fabulous idea in my opinion.

· If people prefer full content RSS feeds, they’ll get it with ads. So that you can make some money too.

· And if they prefer not to view your ads, they can opt for the partial content RSS feeds. And come visit your blog if they want to read the full post. You can then monetize your blog.

I always wondered what plugin LifeHacker uses to provide two feeds for their blog. But never did try hard to find such a plugin.

WordPress Plugin: DualFeeds

Yesterday, I came across a WordPress plugin that allows your blog to have two RSS feeds too: one with full content. And one with partial content.

You can download that plugin here: DualFeeds

I’m not sure if LifeHacker uses the DualFeeds plugin. But it serves the purpose.

Blog Publishing Frequency and Strategy

Instead of publishing one new post every week day on this blog, I’ve shifted gears a bit. I’ll only be publishing 3-4 new posts every week.

I won’t be reducing the number of posts I write. I’ll just not be publishing them on this blog. Instead, I’ll be trying to find other blogs where I can guest post. This way, more people will be reading what I write. And more people will visit this blog.

From time to time, I’ll also be asking others to write guest posts for this blog. So hopefully, the amount of useful content you read on this blog won’t reduce.

Action Summary:

You will do good adapting your publishing strategy too. Don’t post everything you write on your blog. Instead find other blogs to guest post at.

Removing MyBlogLog Increases Adsense Earnings!

MyBlogLog
A snapshot of the MyBlogLog widget

I recently removed the MyBlogLog widget from this blog. Why? Because after 15 days of testing, my statistics showed that MyBlogLog reduces your blog earnings!

Lets take a more detailed glance at MyBlogLog Pros and Cons…

MyBlogLog Pros:

1. It makes your blog look busy. Popular even.

2. It could generate a quite a bit of traffic to your blog if your blog makes it to their “Hot Community” section. However, the chances of this happening are quite slim - especially if your blog is not already popular.

3. The best advantage of MyBlogLog is that it is a conversation starter! You can see who visited your blog. And if you see a popular person on your bloglog, you can send them a quick note thanking them to visit - and start a conversation!

(Contrary to MyBlogLog’s official selling point, MyBlogLog widgets don’t make good community builders. Because there is really no way for you to keep in touch with your MyBlogLog blog community. And no pain for your community members to leave your community.)

MyBlogLog Cons:

1. It makes your blog load slowly. Showing images of 12-15 people takes quite a long time.

2. It provides absolutely no advantage to your blog readers.

3. It decreases the click through rate for links placed near the MyBlogLog widget.

MyBlogLog helps the blogger more than it helps the blog readers. Its more of a fashion badge that serves little purpose. And so I decided to remove the MyBlogLog widget from this blog… at least for a little while.

Since I removed the widget, the click through rate for the Adsense ads shown in the sidebar has more than doubled!

I may bring the widget back for more testing. But I’ll never place it in the sidebar again. Where 99% of the bloggers place it. If I do test it out again, I’ll only place them in my blog footers. Making sure that their slow loading time doesn’t affect my blog readers. While providing me the advantage of starting conversations with a few of my blog readers.

Action Summary:

· MyBlogLog widget is not the best use of your blog theme real estate. You may want to remove it.

· If you do keep them, make sure you place the widget at the bottom of your blog where it doesn’t interfere with your blog readers.

Cool Tool: Browser Shots - Test Your Blog Design in Different Browsers

Do you know if your blog looks OK in all the various different browsers?

A couple of days back, I received a phone call early in the morning from some one who complained that one of my websites didn’t show up well in his browser. He used a computer with Linux on it and had a browser that I’d never even heard the name of. There was no way for me to know what the error was.

So I did some Googling and came up with a solution. BrowserShots.org!

This is a nifty website that allows you to test your blog or website and see how it looks in various different browsers - without you having to download those browsers on your own computer!

BrowserShots.org

Action Summary:

1. Go to BrowserShots.org and submit your blog URI

2. Make sure you select “4 Hours” from the drop-down list under “Maximum Wait”

3. Bookmark the page you are forwarded to. And visit it after 3 hours of submission - but before 4 hours.

Saying No to NoFollow

Saying No to NoFollow

Disclosure: Your website will be crawled by search engines if you comment on this blog.

Commenting on blogs was the easiest way to increase the number of backlinks your blog has. It was so easy that many spammers created bots that would automatically post blah comments on random blogs.

In a bid to discourage comment spam, in January 2005, Google advised all bloggers to add a “NoFollow” tag to all their outgoing comment links. And almost all the major blogging softwares added the NoFollow tag to their core.

Unfortunately, this didn’t stop spammers from posting spam comments on blogs. The whole NoFollow idea failed to prevent spam. So since a few months now, some bloggers have started a grass root campaign to remove the NoFollow tags and allow search engines to start crawling links in comments again - so as to give an incentive to their readers to comment frequently.

I think that is a very good idea. Its one more way of rewarding your top readers who spend their precious time in improving the conversation and posting the comments. That is why, I’ve removed the NoFollow tag from this blog.

The WordPress plugin I used is “DoFollow”

3 Blog Tag Line Tactics

Frequently Asked Question: I’m having a hard time creating a tag line for my blog because I cover a lot of different topics. How should I go about creating the tagline?

Since writing the Blog Tag Line post, I’ve had 3 people ask me a similar question. What should you do if you cover a lot of topics and can’t decide on a short tag line?

Tag Line Tactic 1: Focus

Case Study 1: Dominos sells more than just pizzas. Yet their tag line was “Fresh Hot Pizza in 30 Minutes or Its Free.”

Case Study 2: This blog covers a lot of various topics like blog designing, making money and increasing traffic. Yet the Tag Line is just “How To Grow Your Blog Traffic.”

It doesn’t matter what you offer. Your tag line is not there to convey your entire sales message or mission statement. The purpose of the tag line is simple:

To Make People Interested and
Surf More Pages of Your Blog

So focus on your best feature and go with it. Some questions that may help you out:

· What can you be the best in the world in?

· What differentiates you or your blog?

· What is the corner stone of your blog?

· What topic is your target audience most interested in?

Tag Line Tactic 2: Umbrella

Another tactic to create tag lines is finding the umbrella - the big picture topic that covers all the things you publish. For example: one reader asked me that he fixes computers and is also interested in blogging about new media. What tag line should he go with?

My answer: Computers and New Media - both are two very different topic. But fall under the same big umbrella: Technology.

If he wants to cover all bases, he should create a tag line that focuses on technology as its key word.

Tag Line Tactic 3: Division

The third tactic is: division. Create new blogs on each different sub-topic. And then create a tag line for that narrowly focused blog.

This requires more work on your part. But the pay-off is usually better too. Because by narrowing your interest, you’ll position your blog as the ultimate authority in that sub-niche.

Instant Adsense Article Directory

“At Last! You Can Make Money With Google AdSense… With Your Very Own "Authority" Site Without Having To Write One Word of Content!”

After months of creating a super to easy article directory script along with one of the most secret and underground strategies, we're finally going to give you the chance to create a high ranking authority site in any niche you want no matter how much competition...

Let’s face it, making money on the internet can be a little bit confusing!

There’s no doubt that Google Adsense is a proven money maker, but getting content pages to put those ads on is probably the most difficult thing for any internet to do.

Frankly, good content is one of the few things you just can’t fake.

Of course, some people will tell you can do fine without lots of new content on your site all the time.

WRONG! Just ask them how much their last Google AdSense check was for. The numbers speak for themselves.

Sure, there are lots of ebooks that will teach you how to become a maestro of AdSense, and there are books on how to get content written…but learning all that information and then trying to get content takes time.—a lot of it.

I mean, you practically have to give up your job and start cranking out content full-time to make it pay off.

Sound at all familiar?

But then I got an idea…

I’ve gotten a ton of requests from people who want to make money with AdSense but who just don’t have time to go chasing down fresh content every day. And I mean a ton. So many, in fact, that it made me think, “How can I automate this process?”

It took time, but I came up with a script that lets you run a site that solicits articles from people, post them, and puts Google ads on every single one of those puppies.

Think about it—if you get 50 people submitting an article to you a day, after 100 days you have 50,000 articles, with Google ads on each one…
We’re Talking Serious Money Here!
But wait, you say, why would people submit articles to your site for free?

Well, it’s pretty simple. Inside all of us is an approval-seeking being who wants to see his or her name in print.

Admit it…don’t you smile just a little bit when you see your name on a nameplate, or a sports roster, or in a letter to the editor?

Everybody wants to be a star.

There’s another aspect of human nature that will make people send you free articles.

When someone’s passionate about something, whether they love it or hate it, they’ll write about it for free just to get it out there where others will see it.

But the biggest reason these people will submit these articles to your new Article Directory site is to be able to add their name and link back to their site at the bottom of every article!

They know these articles will be copied from your article site and used by hundreds or even thousands of other people all the while getting their name and resource box links spread all an out the internet!

So what my script does is take advantage of human nature.

Sounds too good to be true?

Well, it isn’t if you have the right tool.

The best part is while all of this is going on- other people are building your massive site for you, a little bit at a time just like the search engines like it!
The Right (and the Wrong) Way to Get Free Content
Getting people to write jillions of free articles for you sounds great, right? But there’s one other thing to consider—how are you going to keep track of all those people’s work and how are you going to track your AdSense revenue?

You need a back office system.

And that’s just what my script includes.

Included is everything you need to run your own article web site and a fully functional administrative backhand to keep track of all your users, and also functions that would allow you to e-mail all your users as well.

Plus you do not have to be a genius to run this system, the backend is just as easy as adding your content into by typing it into the provided boxes-

You do not need to know a thing about html!

Finally! A way to quickly and easily make thousands of high content Adsense revenue generation page all while letting others do all the work!

And here's the real kicker...

Not only will you get this amazing script, but you'll also get the "Instant Adsense Article Directory" course that will take you step-by-step and show you exactly how I use this script to create an authority site that ranks in the top of the search engines for several different keywords!

This tactic has never been revealed anywhere. I've been quietly using it to pull in fat Adsense checks for months! I'm not talking about little known niches that only get a few hundred searches a month. With this course, you'll learn how to compete in the big high paying Adsense niches in no time!

Adsense - The Dollar Producing Factory

Have You Ever Wondered How People Make Money Through The Internet By Doing Almost Nothing? The Secret: ADSENSE, Google’s Online Advertising Program!

These People Run a Legitimate Internet Business Where There Is:

* No need to sell any products or services
* No need to have any employees
* No need to invest any money (or invest very little money)
* No need to spend effort or time in any business activities
* No need to look for clients or customers

So what is AdSense? How to get registered with AdSense Programs? What are the different types of AdSense programs? What are the tips and tricks for earning more through AdSense? How do I stop the Ads of competitors from appearing on my website? How do I get paid? Do I get reports for analyzing the performance of my website?

All these are genuine questions that would come to the mind of anyone who was interested in learning more about AdSense, how it works and how they can make the best of this HUGE $$$$ EARNING OPPORTUNITY.

When I first came across this concept, I couldn’t really believe it. It looked like a scam to me (after all, how could anyone make so much money by doing almost nothing). However, the association of AdSense with ‘Google’ gave me a lot of confidence. So, I just went ahead and took the plunge.

I couldn’t believe myself when I saw my bank balance grow like mad. This changed my life completely and it was like a dream come true. I could go on vacations more often while my websites earned for me all the time, day and night.

As I unravel everything about ‘AdSense’ to you, I also feel a bit jealous of you … since I never got such readymade material that could Launch Me Immediately Into The World Of AdSense.

Since time is of essence, if you can get all the information about AdSense consolidated at one place, you are already ahead of others since you Start Earning $$$$s Earlier Than Others who don’t have access to such information.

All that you need to know about AdSense (including the tips and tricks) are included in this e-book.

HOW PEOPLE MAKE MONEY THROUGH THE INTERNET BY DOING ALMOST NOTHING?
Well, the secret lies in various online advertising programs. And one of the most popular programs is the ‘AdSense’ Program. AdSense program works by serving ‘targeted’ ads on websites. Whenever someone visits your website, those ads are displayed and you earn $$$$s. If someone clicks on those Ads, you again earn $$$$s. This means that once you have setup your website with AdSense ads, the flow of revenue is automatic without you doing anything else. Of course, if you do a little bit of tracking and performance analysis of your AdSense ads, You Can Enhance Your Profits Many Times.

AdSense is an online advertising program that is run by Google (the specialists in search engine technologies). This program is different from the other advertising programs in the sense that here the ads are served based on the content of the website. So, a website that contains articles or content on shoes, would display AdSense ads for shoes, shoe accessories and other shoe related products.

AdSense program benefits all the involved parties i.e. advertisers, website owners that show AdSense ads and the website visitors (or consumers) that see the AdSense ads. Advertisers get an easy and effective advertising medium for targeted advertising, website owners get $$$$s for displaying Ads on their websites and the website visitors get a richer experience because the ads that they see are actually related to their field of interest.

What Is Adsense?

AdSense is a wonderful advertising concept that was conceived by Google some time back. Though new advertising concepts keep coming up all the time, this one is something that is altogether different.

AdSense (Google’s advertising program) presents an earning opportunity to the website owners by allowing Google to post advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are either text advertisements or image based advertisements.

Top 4 Tips For Getting The Best Results From Your AdSense Ads

The revenue that you earn from Google AdSense program is totally dependent on you and your abilities. Here are some tips that you can use to get the best results from your AdSense Ads:

Use channels: Channels help you in conducting a better analysis of the performance of your AdSense Ads. You can use custom channels to check what web pages are making more revenue and which ones are not doing so well. In fact, custom channels can be used for conducting analysis on multiple aspects at the same time. You can use this analysis for making amendments to your AdSense Ads or website content in order to get better results.

AdSense’s Place In The Online Advertising World

Soon after the advent of internet, it was realized that the website real estate (or the space on websites) had commercial value in the advertising world. The simple reason behind this was the soaring popularity of internet and the increasing number of eyeballs received by various websites. Thus, internet advertising (or online advertising) came into being. Today, internet advertising is treated as one of the most effective and most economical means of advertising.

Adsense For Content Websites

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

Adsense is essential for your content websites is to know first hand how Adsense ads works.

The publisher or the webmaster places Adsense java script code into a certain website. Each time the webpage is accessed, the java script will pull advertisements from the Adsense program. The Adsense ads that are targeted should therefore be related to the content that is contained on the web page serving the Adsense ad. If a web surfer clicks on an advertisement, the webmaster serving the Adsense ad earns a portion of the money that the advertiser is paying the search engine for the click.

The search engine controls all the tracking and payments, providing an easy way for webmasters to display content sensitive and targeted Adsense ads without having the hassle to solicit advertisers, collect money, monitor the clicks and statistics which is a big time consuming task in itself. It seems that there is never a shortage of advertisers in the program from which the search engine pulls the Adsense ads. Also webmasters are less concerned by the lack of information search engines are providing and are more focused in making cash from these search engines.

a) Adsense is essential for content websites is because it already has come a long way in understanding the needs of publishers and webmasters. Together with its continuous progression is the appearance of more advanced system that allows full ad customization. Webmasters are given the chance to choose from many different types of text ad formats to better complement their website and fit their webpage layout.

The different formatting enables the website owners the possibility of more click through from web surfers who may or may not be aware of what they are clicking on. It can also appeal to the web surfers visiting thus make them take that next step of looking up what it is all about. This way the web surfers behind the Adsense will get their content read and making profit in the process.

b) The ability of the Adsense publishers to track not only how their websites are progressing but also the earnings based on the webmaster defined channels. The recent improvements in the search engines gives webmasters the capability to monitor how their Adsense ads are performing using customizable reports that has the capacity to detail page impressions, clicks and click-through rates. Webmasters and publishers can now track specific ad formats, colors and pages within a website. Trends are also easily spotted.

With real time reporting, the effectiveness of the changes made will be assessed quickly. There would be time to sort out the contents that web surfers are making the most clicks on. The ever-changing demands would be met while generating cash for the webmasters and publishers. The more flexible tools are also allowing webmasters to group web pages by URL, domain, ad type or category, which will provide them some accurate insight on which pages, ads and domains are performing best.

c) The advertisers have realized the benefits associated having their ads served on targeted websites. Thus increasing the possibility that a prospective web surfer will have an interest in their product and services. All because of the content and its constant maintenance. As opposed to those who are no using Adsense in their sites, they are given the option of having other web surfers do their content for them, giving them the benefit of having successful and money-generating web sites.

Adsense is all about targeted content, the more targeted your content is, the more target the search engines ads will be. There are some web masters and publishers who are focused more on their site contents and how best to maintain them rather than the cash that the ads will generate for them. This is the part where the effectiveness is working its best.

There was a time when web surfers were not yet aware of the money to be achieved from advertisements. The cash generated only came into existence when the webmasters and publishers realized how they can make Adsense be that generator. In those days, the content were the most important factors that is taken quite seriously. It still is With the allure of money, of course

Paid search 'win-win for the consumer'

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

Search engines and consumers each stand to benefit from a well-executed paid search campaign, it has been advised.

James Lamberti, senior vice-president of search solutions for industry analyst comScore, calls the technique "a win-win" in an interview with the E-Commerce Times.

"If done right, search is a win-win for the consumer and the engine, combining a paid ad with highly relevant information that would have taken a long time for the consumer to discover otherwise," he explains.

Meanwhile, Whit Andrews, research vice-president with advisory firm Gartner, stresses the advantages of profiling users' search preferences as a demographic tool.

"There's nothing like a search box to know what people want," he tells the publication.

Industry expert Mike Moran recently wrote in a WebProNews column that search marketing is "more about marketing than search" and urged webmasters to put adequate analytical software in place on their websites.

He added that marketers should identify when paid search is performing as well as can be expected, in order to ensure they expand their promotional efforts to include other avenues of generating revenue.

Yahoo! offers ad comparisons

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

Yahoo! Search Marketing campaigners can now compare their advertisements with those of other users of the service, according to the company.

In a post on the Yahoo! Search Marketing blog, administrator Michael Mattis reveals that the interface made available to campaign managers "lets you view examples of ads by other advertisers using selected keywords".

Meanwhile, up to 20 commercials may be compared side-by-side in a single page to identify the best and worst-performing promotional messages.

"There's also a handy best practices cheat sheet, right in the interface," Mr Mattis adds.

When an advertisement is created within the interface, the user is now prompted to add a second, third and fourth, which activates the performance comparison, he advises.

The Ad Optimisation function previously announced by Yahoo! automatically compares the results achieved by each commercial in a given group.

As data is collated, it increases the frequency with which best-performers are displayed in an attempt to maximise the click-through rate achieved.

Online marketing 'comes of age'

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

The internet advertising industry has "come of age", according to an expert.

Karin von Abrams, senior analyst at eMarketer, makes the comments in light of figures from the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB).

A recent study conducted by the IAB found that spending growth of 41.3 per cent in the first half of 2007 took online advertising to 14.7 per cent of all marketing expenditure.

Paid search exhibited above-average inflation of 44 per cent and comprises the majority of all spending at 57.1 per cent of the overall total.

"These figures demonstrate that online advertising and marketing - like the internet audience - have truly come of age in the UK," comments Ms von Abrams.

"It's remarkable to see online advertising rise so strongly on the back of robust gains last year," she adds.

Guy Phillipson, chief executive of the IAB, recognises the contribution of "exceptional growth" and increased market share to the "astounding rate" of development of online advertising.

MSN expands adCenter reporting

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

MSN has expanded the functionality of its adCenter marketing software to include click quality reports, the company announces.

Brendan Kitts, programme manager for click quality at Microsoft adCenter, advises that this could enable internet marketers to identify the level of low-quality clicks their advertisements receive.

This includes fraudulent click-throughs or those which are deemed unlikely to result in a sale, he states in an MSN adCenter blog post.

"Because all clicks don't necessarily carry the same value, adCenter categorises them as either standard quality or low quality," Mr Kitts explains.

"Low-quality clicks are clicks that adCenter classifies as non-billable," he adds.

The programme manager claims that such clicks are not labelled as "invalid" due to the fact that they may on occasion result in a conversion.

A previous post on the adCenter blog urged marketers to analyse any improvements in sales fully following an advertising campaign to ensure they gain the maximum benefit from any changes made to promotional efforts.

Live Search relevance 'improved'

Sunday, October 21, 2007

(0) Comments

The relevance of results offered by Microsoft's updated Live Search has been improved, according to the firm.

In an official Live Search blog post, the company explains that the significance of results is "a hard thing to quantify or qualify".

Microsoft adds that it is important for more obscure search terms to yield results of similar relevance to those provided for common searches.

The "snippets" - short sections of the target site which aim to clarify its content within the search results - have also been updated.

Changes include greater compatibility with websites which use javascript, as well as the ability to expand acronyms such as FBI for greater clarity.

While the total number of pages indexed has increased to 20 billion, Microsoft asserts that the level of spam in results has been lowered.

"Experts on our team take a randomly selected and statistically significant set of searches and measure the percentage of spam in the results," the search engine explains.

This figure is said to be down in a "non-trivial manner" in recent testing.

Microsoft previously stated that usability issues such as contrast and spacing have also been tackled in the new Live Search release.

A Californian firm is set to launch a new natural language search engine which aims to match the linguistic structure of a query rather than simply the words themselves.

Powerset claims that its new natural language search tool is markedly different from other search engines as it uses familiar phrases and sentences, thereby producing more accurate and effective search results.

According to the company, its search innovations "are rooted in breakthrough technologies that take advantage of the structure and nuances of natural language", E-Consultancy reports.

Writing on the Powerset blog, product manager Mark Johnson revealed that internet users will soon be able gain an insight into the search engine's capabilities.

"While we're not ready quite yet to show off our stuff, we are getting very close and will be launching Powerlabs soon," he revealed.

"In Powerlabs, you'll be able to see product demos and product ideas, learn about natural language search and, most importantly, give your feedback on our product and contribute to next generation search," he added.
