Google time on page benchmark
The time a user spends looking at a particular page can now be set as a benchmark in Google's Website Optimiser software, the search engine reveals.
In an Inside AdWords blog post, crew member Trevor explains that the move means webmasters can determine the proportion of visitors who remain on the page for a certain amount of time.
"For example, if you want to test whether visitors to your site are watching a 30-second video in its entirety, Website Optimiser can accomplish this by recording each time a visitor spends 30 seconds on that page as a conversion," he writes.
Meanwhile, AdSense product marketer Magnus Yang this week announced the launch of Google Gadget Ads in an Inside AdSense blog post.
These are interactive advertisements which appear in a number of Google's image ad containers, he asserts.
Mr Yang argues that they "will appeal to your users, simultaneously providing value to advertisers" and that, due to strict editorial guidelines, there will be no "punch the monkey" advertisements.
