Things are not so simple when you are using some content management system like Joomla.

Joomla uses a template system which defines the website layout and module positions. Module positions are places where you can insert page elements like menus, tag clouds, search boxes, social bookmarking widgets or ads. To include AdSense ads in Joomla you can install a dedicated AdSense module or a general purpose code insertion module. Each solution has some advantages and disadvantages.

Dedicated AdSense module is very simple to use. The disadvantage of this approach is that you have no control over the generated code. Google explicitly prohibits any changes to the ad code. Getting a adsense account approved is a bit difficult task for most of the new bloggers as Google Adsense team is more strict than ever now. In this article I am going to explain why your adsense account is not getting approved.

I got the idea to write this article after my friend’s application got rejected by Adsense team and they replied him back giving some guidelines to try his luck in the future.

Your application for Google Adsense will not be approved if your website or blog do not satisfy any of the following guidelines :

Bing Maps Gets a Major Makeover; Silverlight Control 1.0 Released

And now we come to the area I fail at the most. Google adwords ads or pay per click advertising must have caused more joy and gloom throughout the internet marketing world than just about anything else. The ‘blues’ are as the result of not organising a proper pay per click management strategy.

Market research,organising a list of relevant keywords, writing the ads and getting them uploaded to the web requires a lot of effort. If you do not have the right bidding plan in place it’s at this point that you could begin to punch a large hole in the household finances.

So your ads are on display, but in what position and are you paying too much per click ?

I should make it clear that the following pay per click strategy is my own and I follow it every day. It works for me but I cannot say for certain that it will work for you in your market or that other strategies promoted by other marketers are not as good or better.

To begin with I would have around 150 ad groups in my ppc campaign, there would be one keyword in every group in the three formats available. With two ads, you keep an eye on the ‘click through rate’ of them both so that you can replace the poorest performing one. Your keyword must be the headline of your ad and where it is more than twenty five characters long it will be substituted with a suitable phrase you have ready. I referred to the three versions of the keyword, these are “broad”, [exact] and broad - which has no embellishments.

My opening bid is 2% of the profit I will generate from a sale - what does that mean ? Lets take a situation where my profit on a sale is $30, two per cent of that is sixty cents - my first bid.

In your adwords account, locate and click on ‘edit campaign settings’. At the bottom of this page you have the option to chose the countries where you want your ad to appear. Switch off the ‘content’ option, put the ads on ‘rotate’ and set your daily budget. Only you can decide how much this will be but please remember to multiply the amount you choose by thirty and be certain that you can easily afford that per month.

For ads to appear ‘above the fold’ they need to be in positions 1 to 5 usually, but I advise you not to aim for the top two spots, you will pay less and still get plenty of clicks in 3rd, 4th and 5th place. The techniques I use to get my ads in the right positions and at the right cost will be the subject of my next article.

Here, rather than saying something physical about your store or product, you will explain what the product can do for the person. The product might “Save You Hundreds” or “Teach You How to Make Millions.” Make sure it is compelling and relevant. Ask yourself (and possibly a friend) whether or not this is something that would make you take action.

And there you have it: a 4-step blueprint for creating an “attention-grabbing” PPC advertisement. Once you put your first ad up and allow it to rotate, you will then want to start testing competing ads.

The methods I will attempt to outline is for long tailed search phrases, like the ones explained in that epic read.

Writing Adsense content is tricky. Maybe you will write an article about your experience shopping for car insurance in Tampa, FL. There is a good chance of seeing a few clicks a month for people searching for car insurance in tampa fl. What else can you write about? a lot. Current news & trending topics is hot, reviews of pop culture, products, places, events there is a lot of topics you can cover. Just remember this formula traffic = popularity – competition. Finding a happy medium is probably the hardest part.

Information sells, and if you solve someone’s problem or provide an answer to a question you are far more likely to get a click out of the deal. Have you ever searched diligently only to not find exactly what you are looking for? Why not make it easier for the next searcher to find that information. How to guides are very popular and fun to write.

You might even want to write about your experience with a certain local company. Did they go out of their way to make you a valued customer? Then by all means the world needs to know, did they leave you hanging? Rant away!

Be descriptive, relevant, repeat the keyword phrases in the Title, Descrition, Content and H1 tags on your blog.

Write hundreds of articles and you will see traffic grow in proportion. After all blogging is supposed to be about what is happening in your life. Share the right details, the one’s that people are searching the net for.

I do hope everyone is at least writing about events and what not in the local community. Even if your only writing 200 word editorials and linking to the article you are writing about. Keep blogging! Not every post needs to be a master’s thesis.

My goal is to blog 3-4 times per day for the next 3 months. Then I will have hundreds of articles and with any luck see a fair amount of organic traffic. Can I write about enough searchable content to generate 1000 visitors a day? I want to know!

After some time you will start to see what works and what does not. You will see how people find your blog organically. Reach out to other bloggers, befriend them, earn their attention. Complement others works, read other blogger’s articles, comment tastefully, pickup back links. Rinse, repeat.

Use Google Analytics, learn it well, it will tell you everything about your traffic. Who is sending what, organic, referral, direct traffic. How long the visitor is on site. It reported to me that someone reached my site searching for the keywords ‘naked twitter man’, on more than one occasion. Are you asking yourself the same question I thought? Who searches for that? Apparently a few people have.

In a rather short amount of time I have been getting hits to my blog based on some of these profitable keywords, all of them have been long tailed searches. Long tailed searches are highly targeted. Now I just have to optimize the Adsense Placements, and hope for the best.

Maybe you will discover that I have no clue what I am talking about. Maybe not.

Typically you would see %50 of the number given above credited to your Adsense account. There are ways to do this effectively, blogging and targeting keywords seems to be pretty popular, and not too difficult to understand. Reports are all over the internet how so and so makes $15,000 a month in Adsense revenue. Really? I want to find out if this is true and share this with my readers.

The most important part of the game is “relevancy”. Don’t add content pages about irrelevant keywords to your blog just because they are high paying. Instead look for high paying keywords targeted around the theme of your site.

Chpater 3 – The Important Relationship Between AdSense and AdWords

Before continuing further in the AdSense discussion it is important to understand the relationship between Goodle AdSense and Google AdWords. When it comes to pay-per-click advertising AdWords is hands down the Internet leader.

AdWords are those text advertisements that appear down the right hand-side of a Google search page. The ads are directly related to the keywords you use in your Google search. Advertisers are assured that there advertisements are shown to individuals who already have an interest in their product. AdWords is an amazingly powerful and effective advertising platform on the Internet as businesses are able to advertise in a highly targeted manner.

For example, let’s assume you sell widgets. You can set up your AdWords campaign to only to be shown when people type the word “widgets” in the Google search form. Your ad is shown to a person who has some form of interest in widgets. If someone types in “cars” then your ad will not be shown.

Obviously Google wishes to make a profit from AdWords so when an individual clicks on one of these ads Google charges the advertiser for the click. Well, I thought today is the time to give some Google Adsense tips. My Adsense earnings have literally doubled over the past 2 months, and even though it still doesn’t add up to all that much, I can actually see what is working and why now, and build up on that knowledge. And I would like to share my insights with you! But please excuse if it sometimes sounds a bit funny - this is just me talking to you like I was sitting opposite you. I really am not that good in having everything read polished and professional, sorry!

When it comes to making money with Adsense, it seems that the opinions in the Internet Marketing community are a bit split. Some say that Adsense is a great money earner, others believe that all the talk about it is B**S** and you should stick to “more solid” forms of making money online.

I admit, at the beginning of my IM career, when I had my first site up and running with lots of Adsense ads plastered around its webpages (http://www.mybeachdecor.com), I started to think that Adsense was not what it was made out to be - because I had literally no clicks and therefore no income. So - this clearly didn’t work very well!

Making Money With Adsense

It has pretty much taken me the last year and a bit of learning, trying, asking questions etc. to find out that making good money with Adsense is indeed possible, and what you have to do to make it work. I’m not surprised now that so many Newbie Internet Marketers give up on it because they want to see fast results, and they are just not getting them. How should anybody at the beginning know what it takes to be successful with Adsense?!?

So here is a list of points I have discovered that can make a huge difference to your Adsense earnings:

Which topic/niche your website/webpage is centered around. This can determine whether you get cents or dollars per click - literally! As Google will display ads relevant to your sites or pages content, if you choose your niche or topic wisely, it will pay off. For example, if you are in a highly competitive niche like Internet Marketing (my blog here belongs to this category), the advertisers who’s ads are displayed on your site will usually have to pay a higher price for their advertising than advertisers in a much smaller niche, like gecko wall art (just using my sites as example) - all because of the higher competition. Of course it doesn’t mean that all the clicks you receive will always result in higher Adsense earnings, but in general these ads will make you more money than ads in less competitive niche markets.

What I like to do is go to Google’s External Keyword Tool and check some numbers; I type in keywords that are relevant to the niche I plan to build a website for, and then check the “Estimated Avg. CPC” number (estimated average cost per click; note it says estimated and average). Check the two examples; one is for the search term “beach decor”, and the other for “Adsense”. See the difference?? Mind you, Adsense is a bit out of the norm. But even niches with keywords getting even $2 or thereabouts for clicks can well be worth it! So needless to tell you that my beach decor site is usually making me a lot less per click than, for example, this blog you are reading.

Where your ads are placed. People do not have a lot of patience any more. When they arrive at your site they will quickly scan the content and then decide whether they stay or go. It has been proven that Adsense Advertising blocks that are placed above the fold (that’s what people can see on their computer before they start scrolling) are doing much better than the ones below. Simply because often people don’t even scroll down the page so the ads wouldn’t be visible. So place at least one ad unit above the fold. Also, try to blend the units within the content. A good way of doing this is to have an ad unit actually inside your main content. Research has shown that ad units that are only placed into the sidebar - for example, this is probably the most popular spot - do not attract much attention any more. So don’t make yor ad units stand out if you can, and they will look more “natural” and have a higher click-through-rate.

The amount of traffic you get to your site. Of course it makes a huge difference if your site gets 10 visitors a day or 1000 - the more visitors, the more chances that one or more of them will find something interesting in the ads displayed and click on them. So keep working on more traffic to your site, and on the optimization for the search engines.

The main question I get from my clients when coaching them on building content sites is wether they should use Adsense or affiliate programs. It's a great question, and one that I haven't seen addressed often. Hopefully this information will help you in making your decision.

My rule of thumb is always go where the money is, but in making the decision to use Adsense or affiliate programs, there are a few things you should look at. Let's take a look at those things right now, so you know exactly what you should be putting on your site. Google Adsense or affiliate programs.

First, it will depend on your niche. If there is an affiliate program for your niche that converts well and pays well, then you should take the affiliate program route. I'm sure you would rather make dollars than you would cents, so using an affiliate program in this situation would be your best bet. However, if there isn't an affiliate program, using a pay-per-click service such as Google Adsense will at least allow you to earn a little money from your content site.

This leads to another question though. How do you tell if the affiliate program you are looking at is a good one or not?

The answer to that question will take some research, but will be well worth your time. The first thing to do is to contact the site owner or affiliate manager and ask what the average conversion rate is for the affiliate program. You could also ask if they have any affiliates that would be willing to email you their experiences with the product. Once you have the answer to that question, visit a few affiliate marketing forums and ask if anyone has promoted the program before or if they have any experience with the owner or affiliate manager of the site. Usually if it's a bad program, many people will tell you about it.

I implemented this tactic myself recently on one of my sites and my CTR has gone up 300% and it hasn't been 24hrs yet. Needless to say I'll be spending sometime making changes to my Adsense ads across my network of sites.

What is it?
Sorry, can't resist a little intrigue.

It's very simple.

Using the Adsense Leaderboard banner 728 x 90 I added small images/photos above each ad at 140 x 100.

These photos are broadly related to the ads and draw the eye of the visitor to the ad. Which the ad alone maybe would not do. Once the eye is drawn your visitor will be much more likely to read the ad text below the image and in turn they'll be more inclined to click.

Google already knows of this tactic and I know a number of people have approached them via email before implementing the images. Obviously nobody wants their account suspended. The good news is Google are fine with it, for now at least. Although a few warnings have gone out with regard to animated images not being appropriate. So no Flash or animated gifs!

Adsense or any other (online money making) thing, aren't made for me or for you only, then why don't we share the experiences so we all get the best results. some people just get paid through Adsense only from telling people how much they earn from Adsense itself !? some people earn more than $ 100,000 USD per month.

Your earnings for referrals will vary depending on the product you're referring. They may also depend the location of the user you've referred.

For non-Google products, each individual advertiser decides the actions they'd like users to complete on their site and how much they're willing to pay for those actions. You can view the amount of this payment displayed on the product details page for each product. For every action the advertiser has defined, you'll see your potential earnings listed in the Payment column.

You'll be credited for non-Google referrals if a user who clicked on your ad completes the advertiser's conversion criteria within 30 days of clicking.

For Google products, your earnings will be determined as listed below.

* AdSense:
When a user who signed up for Google AdSense through your referral first earns US$100 within 180 days of sign-up and is eligible for payout, you will be credited with US$100. (Only referred users located in North America, Latin America, or Japan will be counted as valid conversions.)

* Firefox plus Google Toolbar: When a user you've referred to Firefox plus Google Toolbar runs Firefox for the first time, you'll receive up to US$1 in your account, depending on the user's location. * AdWords:

Lets face it, if my website traffic is anywhere in the hundreds a day, there is no way under these blue skies I’m gonna make myself enough money over the internet. I read a review of some website with mammoth traffic and they make over $15,000 a month. Heck, Digital Point makes anywhere around $10,000 a month on a 50% revenue share with their contributor members. That is $10,000 being 50% of what is left after forum members have been paid off. “Google pays Digital Point about $10,000 a month, depending on how many people view or click on those ads”, said Shawn D. Hogan, the owner and chief technology officer of Digital Point.

Here is the kicker. I don’t in my wildest dreams think I’ll ever have a website the size of digital point, ever! But I can make 100 small ones. See, I’m just an average Joe trying to make head, tail, or both, whichever comes first; of this internet money thingii. And right now I’m not sure I’m holding onto the tail or neck.

I have been doing some research on Google Adsense and I want to share with you some interesting things. Things that I didn’t know about and things I believe if I had known earlier, I would still be having some hair left on my head. (Pulled much of it off trying to double my Adsense to $ 0.40 a day). Anyway, I have concentrated my research on how to optimize my Adsense revenue even before I work on increasing traffic to my 2 blogs.

In my quest, I have learned that the secret to increasing your Adsense revenue lies in mastering four main factors namely:

Creating Relevant Ads

From my Google Adsense account reports, I have noticed I earn much more from adsense for content ad groups as opposed to the adsense referral ads and adsense for search bar. If you have an Adsense account, you know that there are three types of Adsense ads that you can choose to be served by Google on your site. These are adsense for content ads that are related to your website’s general content. The content based ads are the best performers in generating you Adsense revenue and they are definitely your best bet. Make sure to concentrate your efforts to having as many relevant content ads as possible if you want to make the money.

Then there are adsense referral ads that you can choose for your website. These ads are not related to your website content and will advertise anything from bio fuels to air tickets. These Google ads do not do as well as the content based ads. The main reason being that visitors to your site are more interested in relevant content to what they were looking for in the first place. Adsense referral ads are however second to the content based ads in generating revenue. And that’s a distant second from content ads.

The last type of ads that Google offers you for your website is the Google search bar. The search bar ad group is such that a visitor to your website can type the name of what they are looking for in the bar. The bar connects directly to Google search and will bring the visitor to a Google page with several ads related to what they searched for. I have really not experimented on the effectiveness of this ad groups from Google and would not therefore conclusively say they work or don’t. It’s however worth putting up a search bar at a corner of your page or at the bottom.

From the above three discussed Google adgroups, you will notice that content based ads perform better than the other two. Its not rocket science to figure out why. The main reason however is that people searching the web are looking for particular information of their interest. They are therefore more likely to click on ads that seem relevant to their search. Adsense adcopies are written such that they offer answers to very specific needs and a visitor will most likely click on an ad that seems to answer their quest. And that’s all you need them to do to earn your money. Click.

For example, people looking for Movie Downloads will be confronted with ads that offer them all sorts of diverse benefits and types of downloading movies online. Likewise, People looking for Water-for- gas cost saver kits and manuals on their cars will be bombarded with ads that offer increasing mileage per gallon of gas etc. Once again, concentrate on requesting from Google only those ads relevant to your website’s content.

Serving Only High Paying Ads

In the real sense, choosing high paying ads from Google Adsense will in effect determine the content you put on your website. In other words, if you want to concentrate on high paying ads, and considering that you need relevant content to earn good Adsense income, then by default you will have to make a website or blog on topics that pay prime dollar for clicks on them. In a nutshell, not all ads pay the same with Google. Since competition for some products is excruciatingly high, the advertisers are willing to pay top dollar for their ads to appear first on Google content based advertising network.

Google adwords (this is where advertisers bid and create their ads on Google) offer the advertisers an option to allow Google to distribute their ads to other websites within their network besides Google that have relevant content to the ads. This is how you end up with Adsense being served by Google on your website in the first place. Now here is the spoiler, not all ads that you choose will pay as high. Ads for new technology, gadgets and gizmos pay much more higher since the manufacturers are willing to pay as much to enter the market and make their product known. Google ads for such products pay you equally higher dollars per click as opposed to ads for say nail vanish.

I have seen some adwords bids that start from $5 per click. Other companies and individuals bid as high as $50 per click to maintain the pole position in Google results pages. The revenue principle applying to adsense when Google serves the ads onto your website is practically the same. On the converse, the highest bid by advertisers is a paltry $0.05 for some products. Which ads would you rather get served with by Google?-go figure.

For you to be able to run high paying Adsense ads, you will need to make a thorough research on minimum bids made by advertisers in adwords. This is not rocket science really. One way of telling a certain area has higher bids is to Google a product you suspect might have high competition among advertisers. Just counting the number of adwords ads appearing for that particular keyword will tell you much.

A Google SERP (Search Engine Results Page) with a lot of ads appearing on it might indicate that the advertisers on that keyword are bidding serious figures per click on their website.

The higher a particular ad appears on a highly competitive keyword usually indicates higher bids and you may want to consider creating websites in such an area and get it served with Adsense. But also bear in mind that high ad counts also means that it’s a highly competitive field and getting traffic for your website might be like pulling teeth…and with a pair of tweezers that is.

It pays to do an intensive research into areas to create websites for Adsense revenue. Since Adsense is served automatically by Google to your website, your only maneuver is to look for very specialized, less competitive, high paying niche areas and keywords to create your website content on. As a rule of thumb, new products are naturally good niche areas to start with; assuming that you catch on the fad soon enough before every man and his dog start selling the same product. Please note that we are placing emphasis on guys that want to use Adsense as their main source of online revenue here.

In most cases and usually why we (me included) make measly Adsense income is that, we create websites in areas of our own interest and then serve Adsense ads to them. Problem is, our preferred areas of interest are not necessarily areas that can make us worthwhile money with Adsense. Research an Adsense area that pays, then create unique content on that, serve the ads and laugh all the way to the bank. Kind of doing things in reverse… banana eating monkey sort of thing.

Positioning And Designing Your Ads

This is an area that I want to approach with a lot of caution. One thing is painfully true, and that is your Adsense ads are not worth the space if they are not optimally designed and positioned. One of the biggest advantages with serving Adsense ads is that Google lets you design and position your ads on your own website. But, which design and positions work best? Just like the offline world, positioning an outdoor advertisement makes all the difference between the ad being seen and it passing as a waste of resources.

Why does placing a TV ad at prime time, for example, cost more than double that of placing it dead in the night or early in the morning? Better still a billboard on an unused highway will not receive as much audience as one in a freeway that has huge amounts of vehicular traffic.

The same principle works with serving ads from Google Adsense. Placement of your ads is everything in getting noticed by visitors to your website and eventually getting them clicked on. Some areas of your website are actually prime real (or is that virtual) estate while others are… well, badlands, abandoned dumb and quarry sites.

Positioning Your Adsense Ads

As mentioned above, you need to know which areas of your website or blog work for Adsense. Research (and don’t ask me by who) has shown that an online browser’s eye is trained more emphatically on certain areas of a webpage while other areas receive just a gloss-over glance. It is also true that a webpage visitor’s eye lands automatically and for the first instance on a particular area of a page and then follows a certain trail of vision on that webpage. Disconcerting, is it?...No, it’s actually a nightmare for an advertiser if you don’t have those facts.

You might have noticed that, in a Google SERP (i.e. the results page you get when you search a word in Google) ads always appear on the mid top and right side of the page. Fact is that, advertisers on these two areas pay completely different rates. The ads on the top of the page are called sponsored ads, while those on the right edge of the page are called adwords.

The middle top area (sponsored ads) is also much more expensive to advertise on while the right-top side ads (1st to 5th positions) are priced higher than the mid-right and bottom right adwords areas. Although, this is done through a bidding process, the idea is clear that, if your ad is the first on the top right side of the page, you get hit more than those below you. This is not only exclusive to Google but to most if not all search engines online that run ads on their SERPs.

Ok, let’s bring it home. Considering your webpage will be providing other relevant and mainframe content in the middle of the page, you will need to follow Google ad positioning example. For starters, you can try to place Adsense ads at the mid-top of the webpage. The best ad design that works for the top page section is the leaderboard format which stretches the ads across from left to right of the page. Usually about three to four Adsense ads will be served with the leader board format.

The leaderboard ads are available in the ads set up button within the horizontal ads drop down. All this is possible once you get Google to approve your account, you will be able to create your ads there and get a HTML code provided for you to paste to your webpage. Google promotes family friendly websites and blogs and will need to review your website before approval. They discourage websites with adult content; your website should also have well arranged and meaningful content.

Your next prime real estate on the webpage is the far right hand side. This is a crucial area and you might want to place the ads right from the top running downwards as a column. Again, I have experimented on this area with the broad banner ads from Adsense and they fit in like a glove hence bracketing the main middle text. The broad banner format is available from your Google ad set up button in your account under the vertical ads section.

Personally, I select the text-only ads from the create-new-ad button. You have a choice of ad types including texts and images, text only and images only formats. I prefer the text only since it’s now accepted that text ads attract more interest than banner and image ads. I think it’s something to do with an ad getting to the point as fast and as effectively as possible.

Now, the other available position has been subject to a lot of debate; but there are still some marketers who swear by it. This is the mid-text Adsense ads. These are ads that are placed in between your main text and separated into two, three or four parts depending on the size of the main text. Basically it interrupts the flow of the text after some delivery of information. By text I mean your main page content located at the middle of the page. I cannot deny that locating the ads mid-text really gets them seen by people interested in reading your full content. But there are also visitors that might consider it an interruption to their reading and just pass along. I think this position’s effectiveness surely depends on an individual reader and I might want to leave the choice up to you here.

The last Adsense positioning real estate is the end-text position. This is placed at the very bottom of your webpage text. This position is equally important for webpage visitors that have read your content and might see something that catches their eye at the end. It is proven that a visitor prefers a sense of continuity while doing their web searches as opposed to opening one page, closing it and opening another altogether. If your end-text Adsense ads are relevant enough to the content on display, the visitor will most likely sign off from your page by clicking on that last ad. Which I believe is good enough for that Adsense revenue click.

As I end the positioning Adsense discussion here, I might want to mention that caution is necessary to avoid overdoing it by serving too many ads. Your webpage should have just enough adsense ads to create a wrap around effect to your main text. The webpage should avoid looking like an overcrowded flea market. Usually Google allows you to serve about 15 ads per page but you need not go the whole nine yards with it. Place just enough on each page to make it optimized for Adsense revenue.

Designing your Adsense ads

You will also be able to design the format of your ads within your Adsense account. Google allows you to play around the text of the ads within certain parameters like size, type, nature, text color, borders color, background colors, url color and the shape of their edges. Google also lets you choose how you want your Adsense ads to contrast against your main text by being able to choose the templates among them blend, mother earth etc. Personally I have found blending my ads to the text works where I don’t want them to conspicuously stand out.

While designing your ads for primarily the purposes of Adsense income, you may want to consider making them stand out. Take care however not to overdo the colors, otherwise your site will look like its reading the riots act to visitors to click on them or else… The idea here is to softly make the ads stand out but not so much as to distract the reader of the main text. This means you will be doing a balancing act with the Adsense font color, the background and the general shape around the edges of the ad boxes.

My research has shown that choosing a soft Adsense ad background like light grey combined with emphasized text color on that ad’s background has a good effect on the click through rates. But grey if your own site’s background is white. Grey works best with websites with a white background. Other lighter colors work best with different backgrounds on websites. I guess I’m trying to say that your Adsense background color should just be enough to provide a slight shade to differentiate it from your original website’s background. Don’t make it scream here.

This might hold true when you visit other websites like hubpages.com which shares its Adsense revenues with article contributors. What they do here is that they serve Adsense ads around your article and if it’s a nice piece, you will get decent clicks if not an outright click-riot. I observed that, since their website background is white, they serve their Adsense ads with an ad-background of light grey while blending the top-text ad’s background white. Your best bet here is not to take my word for it but to keep on tweaking, testing and turning the ads until you see what works for your website.

High Traffic Levels

This is the devil in Adsense income. The above three aspects of increasing your Adsense income will only work to a certain extent and as far as your traffic goes. 7 Ways To Optimize Adsense Legally

Thanks to adsense, blogs, rss feeds and their listings -- not to mention an arsenal of free types of advertising -- it's possible to make a very good income without spending a penny and with minimal effort. The trick is to optimize for it.
PLEASE NOTE: Though adsense may have originated with Google's system, there are many other adsense-type programs available, all of which are as viable -- some even more so -- as theirs. The information included here applies to most of them.
While everyone else is busy optimizing for search engines, by optimizing for adsense, a site can feasibly pull enough traffic that simply clicks on the ads to forget about other forms of sales.
However, bear in mind that most adsense TOS agreements prevent any unfair or "fraudulent" clicking, even so much as a note saying, "click here to support this site," which risks banishment by most adsense companies. This, of course, is to protect those adwords customers who pay to have their ads displayed. It is they who are robbed (not the companies) when an ad is clicked irresponsibly. Furthermore Google, for one, can track clicks effectively enough to detect any artificial or irresponsible clicking will garner any income received this way.
With that in mind, by understanding how adsense-type programs work, one can optimize a page, legally, to create a substantial income. And while guidelines are designed primarily focused on adsense, many of these strategies will increase a sites' general revenue as well.

1. TOP SEARCHES
The first step is to design a site around the top searches. There are various tools (keyword selectors and zeitgeist, for example) that help gather this information. Of course, there is also the "niche marketing" school of thought, i.e., to find a smaller group that has less page-per-click competition. In this case, the ideal is to find a large audience-small page ratio. But after more than a year of marketers scouring the web for them, finding one is rare and searching for one can take a LOT of time. Not hours or days, but weeks or months.

2. HIGHEST PAYING KEYWORDS
Lists of these can be found simply by searching the internet. Of course combining the highest paying adsense keywords with Top Searches may make a very strange mix. Afterall, the top search (at the time of this writing) is Britney Spears while the top-paying words relate to mesothelioma and asbestos cancer. So, unless Britney Spears speaks out on mesothelioma, there's little chance these could be combined legally*. But, by looking down the lists there are more feasible combinations. The main thing to understand is it's only a combination of the two (high-paying keywords & top searches) that will bring enough traffic to garner any measurable LEGAL income from adsense.

3. PLACES, PLEASE
Placing the ads prominently on the site is a no-brainer, though some marketers still tend to hide them toward the bottom of the site. Another TOS factor, too, is a content-to-ad ratio that adsense programs used to insist on, but seem to be slipping. Generally the policy was no more than two banner ads per page though many sites that end up at the top of searches seem to flaunt this rule. But who knows how long they last, too. Traditionally, putting one banner across the top, just below the title, and one "skyscraper" down one side, with content in the middle is the best.
4. MULTI-PAGE IT
One pase allows for 2 ads, but more ads can be placed on each additional page on the site. For those lacking ideas for additional pages, the simplest page would be a separate contact page, as well as an "about us" or testimonial page, all of which are viable additions.
Incidently, it's ironic that so many marketers create mile-long splash pages rather than a group of pages and never add one adsense ad to them. As if, by doing this, it will garner more sales, when the truth is, they sacrifice as much as gain because these pages are rarely indexed and annoy visitors as many as they attract, simply because of their set up. Understand this: adsense is a way to profit from EXIT traffic, something that WILL occur at one point or another, no matter how wonderful the page.

5. HIGHLIGHT OR BLEND
Some prefer the adsense to blend into their site, almost hiding it from visitors. But this diminishes its effectiveness. Rather, by highlighting it, visitors will be more aware of it, allowing it to stand out. Of course, we'd all prefer our visitors to stay at OUR site, buy OUR product, etc. But the fact is, many won't. Isn't it better to gain something from their departure?

6. ADSEARCH
This feature is only available from some of the larger adsense programs. If it is available, placing it at the bottom of a page offers the visitor the convenience of doing a search without having to first go to the SE. Of course, many SEs and browsers offer toolbars that diminish the effectiveness of this. But adding it will create another exit point that is to your advantage-- and seems like a service, too.

7. AFRAID OF COMPETITION?
Some adsense programs offer a "block competition" option, one in which specific sites may be barred. However, to believe it's possible to effectively block ALL your competition is naive. Though it may at first seem outrageious to help advertise for the competition, again, at least one will gain from their advertisement (and, for those who need payback remember: the competition is paying you).
Each of these strategies increase a site's adsense revenue. By using all of them, the adsense ads will create a steady revenue stream which will increase with the site's traffic stream.--mo

We have been taught that "blending" is the way to go with tricking users into thinking that the ads are actually part of your website. This is not true. I've actually achieved a jump in my CTR with ads that actually look like clickable links. It seems purley psychological...if it looks like a link, it must be a link and therefore I must click the link. So the take away from this is to have the urls in a color that looks as much as a link as possble.

User small block text ads at the beginning, as a floating item and at the end of each of your posts. I've seen an increase in my CTR by simply closing an article with a small block of Adsense ads.

You have got this far and hey, its fun, its creative and its nice having people visit your creation and read your views/opinions or factual presentation.

But it would also be really nice to be able to recoup at least some of that initial investment in time and money, and it would be even better if your baby could provide a few beers as well!

Most enthusiast site owners get nervous at this point. Do you really want to corrupt your site with a garish mess of affiliate adverts and pay-per-click adverts? After all, we have all seen perfectly good sites ruined by an over eagerness to gain an income.

Lets face it your site is there because you care about the subject of your site. The last thing you want is it to turn into a tacky mess of irrelevant ads which will diminish your message and degrade your standing within the subject of your site.

But it is possible to implement PPC without ruining your site. I reckon that with restraint and care, a good quality site can include PPC adverts without losing its dignity or message. I have a few simple rules I follow and I think the ads I attract to my sites actually improve the content by adding related links my visitors appreciate.

Here are my rules

No advert block should be "in your face". If the user has to scroll to start reading the real information on your site, or if the ad blocks are so prominent they break up the natural flow of your text/images then that is bad. I ensure only one ad block appears above the fold, either as a top of page banner or as a block bottom right of the displayed page. I find it is nice to have the ad block opposite an image.
Blend your adverts in. Make them have a low profile. No borders or special fonts. Use the same font colours as used on your site.
I do not use picture ads. I find them difficult and distracting. In my opinion they are too prominent and detract from the information on the site.
Google allows three Adsense advert blocks per page but I use a maximum of two. I make use of the Google channels tool to give each ad block its own identity.
The really important page to get adverts on is your landing page. I find most of my advert clicks come from the main page. Other pages are less important. So if you want to just try it out you only need to redesign one page.

Google is always very protective about how much it pays per click and how much individual sites can gain. Discussing it too graphically can get you barred!. Google pay up when you pass the $100 mark and this can be accumulated over a number of months, so even if your niche site only gets occasional clicks, it all mounts up eventually.

After all, even $100 a year would cover most hobby/enthusiast hosting fees, although, of course you may well to able to earn much more than this. The amount of effort modifying just a single page and setting up the Google Adsense account to try it out is really minimal compared to what you may eventually get back and is well worth the effort.

The critical thing is not to lose the dignity of your site. I think you can include Google Adsense without losing your message, and I know that niche sites can more than pay their way with Google Adsense

Recently I found I had a few websites I had basically abandoned, mostly because the products had become less attractive and were no longer worth the effort of promoting. I decided rather than let the sites simply sit there costing me hosting money - I should try to optimize the sites for Google AdSense and see if I could make any income from the sites at all.

I must admit that I probably had a slight advantage as my sites still had "some" traffic. I had heard about people earning good money through the Google AdSense program so I decided I had nothing to loose by experimenting to find out if I could in fact earn any money from my useless sites or not.

Almost as soon as I put some effort into optimizing my sites I noticed an increase in click through rates in my Google AdSense account. The increase in my earnings wasn't enough to get too excited about. I had increased my earning to about $3.00 a day, hardly enough to retire on but at least I could see that the alterations I had made to my sites had increased my AdSense income.

The next thing I do is SEO (Search Engine Optimization) to see if I can improve the traffic to my AdSense websites, my theory being if I have x amount of traffic to my sites now- then if I can double the traffic then I should double my income. The only tool I used to start with was Ad Word Analyzer

I try to think of prospective niche markets - a quick search using Ad Word Analyzer tells me which of my niche keywords are searched for the most - also the keywords where I'll have the least competition. Now that I have the keyphrases I'm going to use for my new website, then I try to register a domain name using those keywords, if I can't do that then the very least I do is put the keywords I want to target in my webpage title tags.

Then I write articles around my keywords, I try to think of what keyphrases the searcher would type in - then I use that term as my article title eg: "Google AdSense Tutorial" I always make sure I have a text link using the anchor text I want to rank for. Finally I submit my articles to the top 10 article directories.

I find these methods have worked for me - it just takes a little time and effort thats all.

Those who have done it and are still doing it as we speak have quite a few useful tips to help those who would want to venture into this field. Some of these tips have boosted website earnings through AdSense quite alot in the past and continue to deliver results.

TIP #1 - The AdSense Format

The one format that has work very well for me in the past, and still delivers today, is the so-called Large Rectangle (336x280). This format has resulted in higher click through rates (or CTR). Meaning more visitors out of 100 visitors click on my adsense ads. The reason for this format outperforming other formats is that the links in this format look more like web links than ad links. Alot of people tend to avoid clicking on ads when they spot them. Choosing this format helps in making your audience 'ad-blind'.

I've also had good results with the Medium Rectangle (300x250) in some occasions. Open your adsense account and have a look at the format. It resembles the Large Rectangle format. Your best bet is to test the two and see which one outperforms the other on your site. I suggest to test both for at least a week.

TIP #2 - Custom Color Palette

Create a custom color palette to match the main colors of your site. You will see tremendous increase in adsense earnings if you make your adsense ads look exactly like the standard web links on your site. If your links are blue, make the adsense links blue. If the background is white, make the background as well as the border of your adsense ad white too. Your ad will look as if it is part of your site and will not look like a block of ads people avoid.

Here's another color tip. Use it if you understand what I mean. I'll give an example. I have a site with several articles on it. All the articles have a green title and the text is grey. The links on the site are all blue. But, my visitors are really interested in the articles I got published. So what I did is change all my adsense color palettes on that site to green links with grey text. All the ads look like little previews of articles. I can't prove it, but my earnings increase by 400% on that site from then on. Again, not all sites are created equal... If you know what I mean.

TIP #3 - Adsense Position

What I recommend is that if you have adsense ads in the bottom of your site, remove them, or move them to the top. What you want is you want people to click. And if I tell you that most people are active "above the fold", meaning don't even bother to scroll down, than you want your ads to be in sight at all times. If your ads are at the bottom, move them to the top. Put them where people can see them quickly.

TIP #4 - Use channels

Channels help you in conducting a good analysis of the performance of ads. Use custom channels to check what web pages are making more money and which ones are obviously not doing so well. Custom channels can be used for conducting analysis on multiple aspects at the same time. Use this analysis for making changes to your adsense ads. 1. Clicking own ads : Never click on your own ads. Whatever precaution you take, Google will find you and just ban your account.
2. Asking friends or relatives to click on ads : This will also get caught and the publisher account will be banned. Multiple clicks from same IP will just raise the alarm for your account and your account will be red flagged.
3. Modifying the AdCode : This is another mistake people do often. Any short of modifying or altering code will lead you to ban. But, there are few google authorized code which can be inserted.
4. Image near ads : Publishers often do it to get visitors attention towards the ads. This method really works, but is against TOS and resulting in immediate ban. To avoid it, always place a divider between the ad and the image.
5. Not using any AdServer : Most people just paste the ad code directly on the page. Theres no harm in it, but, using a adserver like OpenAds will help you to manage the ads better and will keep log and track each click on ads. This helps when you get click bombed and have to send log details to Adsense.
6. Misleading Headings : Do not place your ads under headings like “Cool Links” or “Get more info”. This is one short of forcing people to click on ads and Google do not like this. Heading like “Advertisement” or “Sponsored Links” will do though.
7. Illegal Contents : You can not place ads on Warez, Adult, Copied content pages. So, no automated blog or video blogs are allowed unless you own the copyright for them. You can not even promote Drugs, Alcohol or tobacco products.
8. Buying Traffic : Most of the traffic you buy is Pay to Surf or AutoSurf and Google highly discourage you to do this.
9. Advertising with mass email : This is another violation of TOS. You can not promote site by sending mass email which have adsense on it.
10. Multiple Account : Once you are banned, you are not allowed to participate in the program any longer. So, never try to register another account. This is against TOS and the second account will also be banned without any proir notice. Though you can register with your company’s name and address.

As part of these regular updates, you’ll soon sign in to your account and see that the Terms have been updated, prompting you to read through and accept them.

This time around, most of the changes to the Terms and Conditions fall into two broad categories: 1) future products and features and 2) privacy requirements. Specifically, one of the main changes is that the terms anticipate future products that may become available in other advertising formats and mediums, for example Gadget Ads. As we look forward to monetizing more online and offline content, we’ve re-worded some portions of the terms to make them applicable across a broader array of media and formats — anticipating, for example, that future products may be priced, paid, or managed differently than current ones.

We’ve also added some specific requirements that make it necessary for publishers to post and abide by a transparent privacy policy that users see. According to this policy, publishers must notify their users of the use of cookies and/or web beacons to collect data in the ad serving process. This change relates to advertisers’ use of innovative products and features like Gadget Ads and other offerings in the future.

The changes aren’t limited to the areas above, however; we’ve made small changes throughout, so it’s a good idea for you to review them thoroughly before accepting.

It seems they are going to introduce some new ad formats and lay outs, As they have mentioned in the second point that the publishers have to agree to some Privacy Policy for future ad content and gave example of “Gadget Ads”, so, we can except something similar to Widegetbucks or Chitika ads.

Important Abbreviations In Marketing

Most of us (Webmasters) use abbreviations of some technical terms related to Internet Marketing and do not know the full form of them. So I decided to comply a list and cover a few of them which are frequently used.
The list may not cover all the terms, I will put them as soon as I get them.

* CPM : Short form of Cost Per Mille (Mille, a Roman numeric value of 1000). Its used to mention the cost of advertising for per 1000 page impressions.
* eCPM : Short form of Effective Cost Per Mille. eCPM tells the publisher what they would have received if they sold the advertising inventory on a CPM basis.
* CTR : Short form of Click Through Rate. Its measured by the number of clicks divided by number of ad impressions.
* CPI : Short form of Cost Per Impression. It determines the cost of your ad space when it shows CPM based ads.
* CPL : Short form of Cost Per Lead. It determines the cost when you refer your visitor for a free registration on the advertiser’s site.
* CPS : Short form of Cost Per Sale. It determines the cost when you refer your visitor to the advertiser’s site and that converts in a sale.
* CPC : Short form of Cost Per Click. It determines the cost of a single click you have to pay for advertising. Its also referred as Cost Per Conversion, which determines the cost of each conversion you have to pay to publishers.
* EPC : Short form of Earning Per Click. It determines the price you get when a ad is clicked on your site.
* PPC : Short form of Pay Per Click. Its kind of similar of CPC.
* CPA : Short form of Cost Per Action. Its where the advertiser pays for each specified action (a purchase, a form submission, and so on) linked to the advertisement.
